STS 01
The European Specific Category is the next step from the Open Category. The Specific Category is aimed more at professional pilots and concerns medium risk drone operations that cannot be performed due to the limitations of the Open Category. The easiest way to fly in the Specific Category is with a Standard Scenario (STS) or Predefined Risk Assessment (PDRA).
So far two STS have been published according to EASA: STS 01 & STS 02.
To be included in an STS scenario, an organisation must comply with all the requirements set out in that STS. (Check Annex 1, Chapter 1 (STS 01) or Chapter 2 (STS 02) or Chapter 2 (STS 02) of Regulation (EU) 2019/947 for the full list of requirements).
These requirements include the unmanned aircraft bearing the appropriate CE category identification label: C5 for STS 01 and C6 for STS 02.
There are currently no drones bearing a C5 or C6 identification tag; flight activities falling within the STS scenarios, but conducted with a UAV not bearing a Class (C5) or C6 identification tag, must be accompanied by a PDRA-S01 or PDRA-S02 Predefined Risk Assessment Operational Manual, respectively.
Standard Scenario STS-01 covers indicatively:
- All VLOS flights over a controlled ground area in a populated environment, within an urban area and in close proximity to people with an SFE weighing more than 2kg.
- All VLOS flights of sprayers of SMEEs.
The Standard Scenario STS-02 covers indicatively:
- EVLOS / BVLOS flights with SmeeAs over controlled airspace in sparsely populated environments.
We designed this combined learning course for drone pilots who want to operate in the above scenarios. We will cover the requirements for a Special Category licence in accordance with EASA rules and regulations. You can operate in all EASA member states by completing your training with us.

Please note that for students who do not have a Greek Tax Identification Number (ΑΦΜ), an administrative fee is required for the processing of their drone pilot license application by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA). Students can pay this fee by selecting the "Administration Fee for Drone Pilot Application" option on our educational platform and completing the course purchase. Once the payment is confirmed, we will proceed with issuing the fee through the official Greek e-Paravolo platform and continue the application process on your behalf.
